Based in Union City, Oklahoma, with additional farm ground in Hinton, Little J Farms is a fourth-generation ranch carrying forward the legacy of the “Lazy J” brand founded over 70 years ago by Leon Jaques. What started generations ago continues today with the same ranch-minded focus: raise livestock that performs where it matters most.
At Little J Farms, the focus is on raising registered American Angus seedstock designed to work efficiently and deliver long-term value.
In 2022, the operation partnered with Byergo Angus as a cooperator herd—an opportunity that elevated both the genetics and overall direction of the program. Through that partnership, Little J Farms sharpened its focus on producing:
- Proven feed-efficient bulls
- Powerful maternal cows
- Practical cattle built for commercial success
Bulls are developed, feed-efficiency tested, and marketed through the annual Byergo Angus sales held in Savannah, Missouri, while cows and heifers are sold private treaty directly off the ranch.
The goal is simple: produce cattle that are functional, efficient, and dependable in real-world conditions.
But cattle are only part of the story.
Little J Farms also raises registered American Quarter Horses backed by some of the most respected foundation bloodlines in the industry, including:
- Blue Valentine
- Driftwood
- Peppy San Badger
These aren’t horses bred for pampered lifestyles.
They’re bred to work.
The kind of horses with enough cow sense to handle a full day on the ranch, then step into the arena that same night and compete.
That standard shapes the entire program.
Mares live on pasture.
Breed on pasture.
Foal on pasture.
Because durability, soundness, and functionality matter more than appearances.
What makes Little J Farms stand out isn’t just the cattle or horses—it’s the mindset behind them.
This is a family operation built around practical livestock, strong genetics, and the belief that good stock should prove itself through performance, not marketing.
The next generation continues to carry that responsibility forward, protecting the legacy built before them while continuing to improve what comes next.
Because operations like this aren’t built overnight.
They’re built over generations.
