For JimBo Gordey, the journey started long before there was a ranch—back when he was just a boy watching The Rare Breed, a 1966 film about bringing premium cattle to Texas. Something about that story stuck. It planted a dream that would follow him for decades.
Growing up on a small farm in Louisiana, JimBo learned the foundations of cattle ranching from his father and uncle, who ran a cow-calf operation with Black Angus and Polled Herefords. The work was real. The lessons were lasting.
But life didn’t take him straight into ranching.
Instead, it led him into a 38-year career in the insurance industry. That path eventually brought him to West Texas, where he built a successful business. The ranching dream never disappeared—it just waited.
Years later, after retiring and marrying his wife Cindy, that dream came back into focus.
A chance meeting with a local couple raising Red Angus cattle was all it took. JimBo knew it was time to start building something of his own. Together, he and Cindy founded G&L Cattle Company—named in honor of their fathers, Gordey and Lawson.
That’s where things really began.
Like many operations, the early years came with a hard truth.
The cattle were good. The program was strong. But turning a consistent profit wasn’t as simple as doing everything right.
That’s when they discovered direct-to-consumer beef.
It changed everything.
Instead of relying on traditional channels, they began selling their beef directly to families—people who cared about where their food came from and how it was raised. It wasn’t just a better business model. It was a better connection.
No middlemen.
No disconnect.
Just honest beef, straight from the ranch.
At its core, Gordey’s Best Beef isn’t just about product—it’s about purpose.
The operation is grounded in faith, guided by a commitment to honor the land, care for the animals, and build real relationships with the people they serve. Every decision reflects those values.
Because for JimBo and Cindy, this isn’t just a business.
It’s the result of a dream that took over 40 years to bring to life.
And now, every box of beef that leaves the ranch carries that story with it—from their family to yours.
